What does an ADHD assessment look like?
Before the assessment
You complete a number of questionnaires on relevant issues, including the ASRS and a developmental history, and where possible an informant completes a questionnaire about your childhood.
During the assessment
The assessment consists of a semi-structured interview probing the main areas of functioning involved in ADHD: the DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults). This yields scores for inattention and for hyperactivity-impulsivity, mapped against internationally agreed diagnostic thresholds. That information is merged with a general psychiatric assessment to reach a diagnosis and rule out other explanations.
After the assessment
You receive your outcome at the end of the appointment wherever possible, followed by a written report within five working days. If you choose medication, titration begins within two weeks.
What does an autism assessment look like?
Before the assessment
You complete screening questionnaires such as the AQ-10, RAADS-R and CAT-Q, and provide the name of someone who knew you in early childhood if possible.
During the assessment
The assessment is multidisciplinary and takes place over one or two appointments. It includes the ADI-R developmental interview with your informant, the ADOS-2 activity-based observation session with you, and a clinical interview with a psychiatrist to explore mental health and co-occurring conditions.
After the assessment
The clinicians discuss their findings, then meet you for a feedback session. A comprehensive report follows within ten working days, with recommendations for adjustments, support and any further referrals.
